New in Store: Smock & Chattels Up Cycle Dress!
I designed a new dress for my sister this past month for a wedding we attended and here it is!!! She trusted me with all the sketching, the colors and the materials.
Why Waste When You Can Re-use?:
the top bustier is from my sister’s wedding dress.
She didn’t want her wedding dress anymore, so I used it to create this new outfit.
Obviously, I had to change a lot of things. I had to remove the original fabric that was covering it. Then I had to transform a few things on the bustier to keep it simple and comfortable for her to wear.
Later, I added a new nude/beige silk fabric to replace the old one.
I also added the strips using the same fabric and the zipper from the back matching the color of the silk fabric.
I still am planning to use some of the expensive fabrics from her wedding dress for some other project…
Et Voila! This is how the top part of the dress was created.
The skirt: I used a lot of layering to make it voluminous, because that is how my sister wanted. I used some 4 meters of thick tulle to layer the skirt and I had a polyester lining skirt underneath the tulle made out of solid fabric. This is normally added to not irritate the skin since the thick tulle can be very hard on the skin. They were all in forest green!
For the final layer of the skirt, I used FOREST GREEN silk double georgette (this is a Carolina Herrera designer fabric). This is such a rich and beautiful fabric and I love it to the bits.
I also used this fabric to make the waistband.
Forest GREEN is such a beautiful, classy, elegant and rich color in itself. Nature and the forest inspired me.
I chose the nude/beige silk for the bustier since it neutralizes the colors of the dress and make Green pop even more!
Starlight Bow: I call this the starlight Bow since I was inspired by the colors of the galaxies and NASA (Thank you NASA for showing us some DROP DEAD GORGEOUS IMAGERY OF SPACE).
I used a European 100% silk with a hint of gold sparkles. I knew this is the fabric I wanted the moment I lay my eyes on it.
I used a soft tulle underneath the silk fabric to maintain the shape and firmness.
Silk Georgette Shawl: I used the rest of the Forest Green silk Georgette material to create a jacket shawl to wear it when it’s cold.
October gets chillier in Montreal so that was necessary.
Starlight Mask: Since the Wedding was on Halloween; I created a mask to masquerade the evening a little bit. (pic coming soon)
Of course, I used the leftover gold sparkled silk fabric.
This was another amazing project to work on! I enjoyed every moment of it!
